Client FAQ
How do you know it’s so effective?
- EEG biofeedback has been around for decades and there has been extensive clinical research proving its efficacy. Please visit http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez and type in EEG biofeedback or neurofeedback with whatever application you are seeking information about.
- BrainPaint’s evaluation questionnaire and generated protocols came from a randomized controlled clinical trial conducted by a UCLA research team and was overseen by the institution’s Human Subjects Committee. The study involved 121 subjects and was conducted at CRI-Help, an addiction treatment facility in North Hollywood, CA. The outcome: attentional variables were normalized in an average of 13 sessions, and there was significantly enhanced retention in treatment yielding a notably higher percentage of abstinence among subjects one year post treatment. The study was published in the August, 2005 edition of the American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse. Since it was mandatory that the research design be systematic and dictated by a manual, Bill Scott then programmed the processes. It is this electronic version of the research design that has been incorporated in BrainPaint instructing the software do everything the researchers needed to do pre and post study. Bill has since added more protocols to BrainPaint using the same stringent criteria.
- Bill Scott has been using BrainPaint in his own practice and at the exclusive Moonview Sanctuary for two years and client satisfaction and referrals have been high due to people meeting or exceeding their initial goals.
- An independent laboratory, along with UCLA’s Lobsang Rapgay as the Principal Investigator, are currently conducting a randomized controlled clinical trial on ADD. Some of the subjects' reaction time have become so fast that the standardized continuous performance test (TOVA) is unable to accurately interpret their results. Research associates are adapting and incorporating this phenomena into the study that will be published in 2008.
Is EEG biofeedback covered by insurance?
Yes, however, ask your Practitioner for more information since they may not take insurance. Note: Insurance companies do not have the word neurofeedback in their database – they use EEG biofeedback.
I want my child to do this, but all he/she cares about is improving his/her soccer game.
Here's a great sample dialog to have with children - it helps to explain it in terms they understand.
Ask: "When you are running fast, do you tell your heart to beat faster?”
The child will reply, “No.”
Ask: “When you are running fast, do you tell your lungs to breathe deeper in order to take in more oxygen?”
The child will reply, “No.”
Continue: "Most of what your body does to rise to the occasion of a soccer game is not coming from conscious commands – it is coming from the power of your brain. If you can improve the functioning of your brain, then you improve your soccer game. Have you ever experienced moments in which your mind turns off during a game, you just know what to do and you’re playing at your best?”
Your child will hopefully respond with a "Yes."
Continue: "Athletes call that state ‘being in the zone’. BrainPaint will help to improve your automatic responses and reflex time. More importantly, it will allow you to experience ‘being in the zone’ more frequently. It will get your head out of your way so you can become the best athlete you can be."
They usually get it.
Can BrainPaint treat addictions?
Yes and no. About 1% of people seeking help for addictions just have the physical aspects of the addition. For this small percentage of the population improving the underlying emotional or cognitive issues is usually all that is necessary. However, for the majority of the addictive population, escaping reality was a way of life before finding a substance to assist them. This population, 80% of which has an addicted parent or grandparent, needs a 12 step program or an ongoing faith based recovery network in conjunction with EEG biofeedback. Research has demonstrated that EEG biofeedback more than doubles the success rate of a person committed to a community based recovery program.
What’s the average price of a session?
EEG biofeedback is in the same price range as other therapists in your geographic area. Prices range considerably depending on your geographic location.
Is there home training available?
Yes, as long as you are supervised by an EEG biofeedback Practitioner. Contact us to find one near you.
